Microwave radar technology enables XJ models fitted with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), to detect slower vehicles ahead (or even those about to move into your lane). It will then automatically adjust your chosen cruise speed and, if necessary, apply sufficient braking to maintain a safe distance. When activated, ACC will automatically maintain a pre-set, comfortable distance from the vehicle in front - even if it slows down. If you prefer, it can be set simply to alert you if traffic in front is slowing down.

The new XJ offers an extraordinarily sophisticated multimedia system as an option. Video screens are mounted in the back of each front seat head restraint with separate headphone output. This allows, for example, one rear seat passenger to watch a film on TV or DVD, while another plays on a games system, all without disturbing the driver, who can listen to the radio or a CD. The system is fully compatible with iPOD and MP3 files.

The XJ steering wheel can be adjusted for height and reach, and tips away to make it easier to get in and out. It also has a switch to move the powered foot pedal assembly forward or back, allowing any driver to sit comfortably at the wheel. Up to three different driver positions can be stored in the memory.

Jaguar´s Satellite Navigation System is incredibly easy to use. It´s also fully programmable with up to 20 preset destinations: so you can just select OFFICE, for example, or tap the HOME button on the 7 inch touch screen for instant directions.  DVD technology means around eight times more information can be stored (and accessed more quickly) than with ordinary CD-ROM systems. This also means, for instance, you don´t have to change discs when you cross international borders. And, unlike many systems, it doesn´t share a CD slot with the audio system, and the fast track postcode technology is geared to our longer UK postcodes.

Press the steering wheel´s Voice button and speak. That´s all you have to do to control the XJ´s key functions without taking your eyes off the road for a second. JaguarVoice allows you to give instructions to the Satellite Navigation System, adjust the climate control, make a phone call or change a CD track.phone call or change CD tracks. Like most of Jaguar´s new technology, it´s designed to make your life easier, safer and more civilised.

Ultrasonic sensors are integrated into the rear bumper of all XJ models. Audible beeps increase in frequency as you get closer to another car or obstacle, helping you determine the remaining available distance. Front Parking Assist is also standard on all models except XJ6 and Sport V8, where it is an option. Parking Assist switches off automatically at speeds above 9mph (15km/h).

An optional seven-inch LCD touchscreen display comes with Satellite Navigation (standard on the Super V8, Sovereign and XJR) provides you and your passenger with fingertip control of climate control, audio and DVD navigation systems and, where fitted, TV tuner and front fixed GSM phones.

Memory Function seats and door mirrors allow you to set three different memory settings for the power adjustable driver´s seat and exterior door mirrors, at the touch of a button. So you (and whoever else drives your car) will always have the most comfortable driving position. You can also memorise pedal adjustment.

For your convenience and safety, sensors automatically detect light levels and switch on dipped headlights. Rain-sensing wipers, which automatically switch on when needed and can adjust speed to the volume of rain detected are fitted as standard to all models.
