XJ Safety
A safer environment
The aluminium XJ has been designed to meet the world´s most stringent safety standards. Safety features include energy absorbing backrests to protect you from whiplash, seat belt pre-tensioners and side impact protection systems, high level rear stop lights and rear Isofix anchors for child seats.

Rigid Aluminium Body
The high strength lightweight aluminium body structure carries less kinetic energy into a collision, reducing the energy that has to be absorbed by the car in an accident. Front and rear crush zones are designed to deform progressively and to preserve the integrity of the passenger compartment. The magnesium cross-car beam and seat frames further enhance the XJ´s combination of extreme lightness, rigidity and high tensile strength.
Adaptive Restraint Technology System (A.R.T.S.)
Jaguar was the first to introduce ultrasonic occupancy sensing. Now all XJ models feature the Advanced Restraint Technology System. Within about one fifth of the time it takes to blink, A.R.T.S. analyses the severity of a crash and deploys safety systems for optimum protection. Using sensors to monitor the size, weight and seating position of front seat occupants – as well as steering wheel position and seat belt usage – A.R.T.S. ensures airbags and seat belt pre-tensioners are deployed safely and appropriately, minimising the risk of airbag-related injuries.

Side air curtains and airbags
New side impact protection systems, with additional side curtain airbags that deploy downwards in less than 30 milliseconds from impact, provide optimum head protection for all passengers. Simultaneously, a thorax airbag inflates from the outside bolster of occupied front seats, protecting the side of the occupant´s ribcage.
Anti-whiplash Protection
Jaguar´s energy-absorbent seating system reduces the incidence of whiplash injury in a rear impact. Instead of front-seat occupants being forced back into a rigid seatback, the backrest is designed to move rearward, first in an upright position and then tilting back, absorbing the impact energy and reducing the relative acceleration.

Dynamic Stability Control (DSC)
The very latest generation of Jaguar´s Dynamic Stability Control – standard on all XJ models – is a major development in safety technology. It detects and responds to understeer or oversteer, adjusting power and applying brake force to any required combination of wheels. It will also detect loss of traction by any wheel, adjusting engine power and braking to the spinning wheel to maintain traction.

Emergency Brake Assist
Emergency Brake Assist enhances the sophisticated, four-channel anti-lock function, fitted as standard to the XJ´s large diameter all-wheel disc brakes. In an emergency, Brake Assist senses if a driver is not applying maximum braking and intervenes to deliver the necessary additional force, gaining a potentially vital few metres in stopping distance.

Personal Security
The Jaguar XJ is protected by advanced security systems with remote central locking (2-stage unlock), deadlocking, glass breakage ultrasonic intrusion sensing, vehicle immobiliser (Thatcham 1 approved) and passive sounder with battery back up. For your personal safety and security, door locks and boot locks will engage automatically, when you drive away. Remote garage door opener is standard on the Super V8 and optional on most other models.
