Energy and refinement

The S-TYPE is a performance sports saloon of refinement and controlled energy. The whisper-quiet new 2.7 litre twin turbo diesel brings the range of powerful engines to five, culminating in the 400bhp S-TYPE R. There´s a choice of transmissions too, with 5-speed manuals standard on the 2.5 and 3.0 petrol V6 engines, while the new diesel sports a new ZF 6-speed manual. The advanced ZF 6-speed automatic transmission - available as an option on all models – is standard on all 4.2 litre V8 models, producing a spirited response with seamless changes and instant kickdown for confident acceleration.

2.7 litre twin turbo diesel engine

Double overhead cams and electronically actuated twin turbochargers enable the lightweight 24-valve V6 diesel to deliver a heady 435Nm of torque. With more than 80% of maximum torque available from just 1,500rpm, this is refined power that makes for relaxed, high-speed cruising while keeping massive reserves for confident acceleration. With a maximum speed of more than140mph, and the ability to sprint from standstill to 60 mph in just over 8 seconds, the new S-TYPE diesel delivers true sporting performance.

2.5 litre and 3.0 litre V6

Both versions of Jaguar´s aluminium four-cam 24-valve V6 petrol engines offer class-leading power and torque with an excellent combination of stirring performance and fuel economy. More than 80 per cent of peak torque is delivered from below 1500rpm through to maximum engine speed at 6800rpm.

4.2 litre V8

The same engine as in the Jaguar XJ, the 155mph 32-valve V8 develops three hundred horsepower to complete the sprint from 0-60mph in just 6.2 seconds. Like its supercharged stablemate in the S-TYPE R, it is extremely light and strong, due to extensive use of aluminium. Its best-in-class stiffness minimises engine noise and increases reliability, as do the direct-acting aluminium tappets, which need no adjustment for the life of the engine.

4.2 litre supercharged V8

With four hundred horsepower of exhilarating acceleration at your disposal, the extraordinary S-TYPE R will launch you from standstill to 60mph in just 5.3 seconds. More than 80% of its massive supercharged torque (553Nm at 3500rpm) is available from only 1500rpm enabling confident, safe overtaking and relaxed, economical, high speed cruising.

ZF 6-speed automatic

The advanced electronic ZF six-speed automatic transmission is available across the S-TYPE range. Smooth, intuitive changes are coupled with responsive and immediate kickdown. A custom-built 32-bit electronic controller integrates engine and transmission functions for optimum power, handling and efficiency.

CATS

Jaguar´s Computer Active Technology Suspension (CATS) is standard on the S-TYPE R and optional on all other models. This innovative two-stage adaptive ride control system automatically adjusts shock absorber settings to improve high-speed stability and respond to your driving style. The result is a unique combination of agile handling, outstanding ride comfort and driver control.
